In motorsport, there’s an old saying: engage brain before opening mouth. It’s a pity this wisdom hasn’t made its way into the skulls of our politicians and public figures. Time and again, they lurch onto microphones or social media with the intellectual coordination of a stalled engine, blurting out half-baked soundbites that reveal more ignorance than insight. Whether it’s a clumsy distortion of history, a tone-deaf comment on national tragedy, or a self-congratulatory boast that unravels under the faintest scrutiny, their statements betray an almost heroic determination to speak first and think later. If only public office came with a pit crew to check for leaks before they race onto the airwaves.
